Privacy Policy
QuoteFair · quotefair.co.uk · Last updated May 2026
QuoteFair is a free tool that helps homeowners across the UK work out whether a contractor's quote is fair. To do that, it needs a bit of information from you — and this page explains, in plain English, exactly what we collect, why, and what happens to it. We've kept it short, because a privacy policy nobody reads isn't much use to anyone.
QuoteFair is run by Sam Collier and Adam Knox, here in the UK. We're the ones responsible for your data. Any questions, email us at hello@quotefair.co.uk.
What we collect
To give you an assessment, you tell us about a job — the type of work, your postcode, the property type, and either a quote you've been given or the price you paid. There's also an optional box where you can describe the job in your own words. One ask: don't put your name, anyone else's name, or other identifying details in that box. We don't need them, and it's better for everyone if they're not there.
At the end, you can choose to enter your email address so we can send you a copy of your result. That's entirely optional — the tool works just the same without it.
And like every website, our systems see your device's IP address each time you load a page.
We don't ask for your name, your full address, or any payment details — QuoteFair is free, so there's nothing to pay.
What we do with it
Your job details do two jobs. First, the obvious one: they generate your assessment, and we store the result so you can come back to it later via your bookmark link. We're able to do this under UK data protection law because it's a straightforward, expected part of running the service you asked for.
Second — and we'd rather be upfront about this — we also look at assessment data in aggregate. That means combined across lots of people and stripped of anything that could point back to you, then used to understand how prices move by job and by area. It's how QuoteFair gets more accurate over time. It is never used to identify you, and it is never sold.
If you give us your email, we use it for one thing: sending you your result. Not marketing, not anything else. You chose to hand it over, and that's the only reason we have it.
Your IP address we use only to stop abuse of the tool — basic security, nothing more.
Where your data goes
We're a small operation, so we lean on a few trusted services to run QuoteFair. Each one only ever sees what it needs to:
- Anthropic generates the assessment itself — your job details go to its AI to produce your result. (anthropic.com/privacy)
- Supabase is our database, where your result is stored. Its servers are in the UK. (supabase.com/privacy)
- Resend sends the result email — if you ask for one, your email address and a short summary of your result pass through it. (resend.com/legal/privacy-policy)
- Vercel hosts the website, and its server logs pick up technical data like IP addresses. (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy)
Some of these — Anthropic and Resend in particular — handle data outside the UK, including in the US. That's normal for online services, and we've kept the list short and stuck to established providers.
That's the whole list. No advertisers, no analytics companies, nobody else.
Cookies — there aren't any
QuoteFair doesn't set cookies. No tracking, no analytics, no advertising cookies. Your browser might cache a page as it normally would, but we don't put anything on your device ourselves.
How long we keep it
Your assessment sticks around so your bookmark link keeps working — we don't delete it on a timer. But it's your data: ask us to remove it and we will, within a month. Same with your email — we hold onto it until you tell us not to.
Your rights
UK data protection law gives you real control over your data. You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, object to us using it, hand it back to you in a portable form, or — where you've given consent, like your email — withdraw that consent. Just email hello@quotefair.co.uk and we'll sort it within a month.
If we ever get it wrong and you're not happy with how we've handled things, you can take it up with the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data regulator, at ico.org.uk.
One thing about bookmark links
Your result lives at a unique link. Anyone who has that link can see that assessment — so treat it like you'd treat anything personal, and only pass it to people you're happy to show.
If this policy changes
If we change anything significant, we'll update the date at the top. QuoteFair has no accounts and no logins, so honestly, we don't expect to touch this often.
QuoteFair is free and independent. We're not tied to any contractor, trade body, or price comparison site — it's just a tool, built to be useful.
